Trek’n Eat meals have a shelf life of 5 years. Beef Jerkys have a shelf life of 18 months.
Oxygen is removed from Trek’n Eat foods and replaced by nitrogen (79% of the air we breathe is nitrogen). This produces a so-called inert atmosphere.
The purpose of packaging foods in a nitrogen atmosphere is to prevent oxidation of some of the ingredients contained in the foods.
There is occasional feedback from customers who have consumed packs that are 5-15 years old without noticing a loss of quality
If you consume packages that have expired, use your sense of smell and taste beforehand and inspect the food by eye.
Katadyn Group does not recommend or invite you to consume expired packages.
